Bambusa Creations Organise Webinar On Challenges & Potentials In Bamboo

Northeast India has immensely rich flora and fauna and most of the species found in this region has tremendous industrial potential. One such plant species that is abundantly available in this region which also has massive industrial potential is bamboo. Many entrepreneurs have come up with long term vision to explore this sector and the number has been rising.

To discuss the potentials of the bamboo industry, a webinar was organised on 18th September, 2021 on the occassion of the World Bamboo Day by Bambusa Creations, an Assam based startup.  Local entrepreneurs, professionals, officials from government body and aspiring entrepreneurs participated in the webinar on the topic, “Challenges and opportunities in the bamboo industry across Northeast India”.

The programme was moderated by Pankaj Gogoi of Startup Assam was joined by Deepak Kumar Goswami ( Ex Director , Bamboo technology park , GM , AIDC ) , Samir Jamatia ( Bamboo Entrepreneur , Agartala) and Arundhati Bora ( Co-founder & CEO , Bambusa) as resource persons.

Deepak Kumar Goswami shared his experience about the initiation of the bamboo industry. He talked about various aspects of the industry that he has been involved with for last 15 years  and how the process of setting up the bamboo technology park in Guwahati was initiated. Giving the example of China successfully  supplying bamboo products across the world, he emphasised on the need of developing clusters in the bamboo sector. Elaborating on the scope for entrepreneurs  in this sector he referred to various government schemes and how central government is facilitating funds.

Samir Jamatia spoke in depth about the challenge of the logistics and supply chain problem from Northeast India to the other parts of the country. He highlighted how the cost of a bamboo from the producer to the market is very expensive due to lack of proper logistics network. He has  also spoke about various bamboo products that need attention .

Speaking about the mission and vision of bambusa initiative, Arundhati Bora highlighted how Bambusa Creations has been working to promote the bamboo products of North-east India globally through the powerful platform of online shopping.  Launched on 25th July 2021, bambusacreations.com ‘focuses on building an online bridge between the local producers of North-East India and global customers and thereby will enable the buyers to buy directly from vendors at a reasonable rate and will also help the vendors to expand their production besides getting a worthy price for their hard work.’

Pankaj Gogoi elaborated on how Bambusa would enable AI and IOT in reaching out to the value chain of the bamboo industry and shall be able to solve the problems in the industry with innovative solutions.

Amitabh Barooa, Secretary , StartupAssam talked in detail about the challenges of entreprenuers.
